Rachel decided to lay there and listen to Mike’s heartbeat as it thumped and thumped away. It made her smile that, as the minutes passed, his heartbeat would speed up or lower gradually. For example, every time she kissed him anywhere, it would speed up, and if she kissed his lips, it would slow down for a few seconds. She experimented and kissed his lips again, a little deeper than their first few kisses, but still compassionate and somewhat gentle. She looked up into his eyes and grinned, ignoring Zuko’s obnoxious barking for attention. “You may not see it, Mikey, but I do. You’re pretty amazing,” she poked his chest with her little finger and laughed.
She heard his stomach make yelps of hunger, and sat up suddenly. “Not particularly, but I can make us something, if you want. Or we can cook together,” she stood and combed her fingers through her hair for a few seconds before holding her hand out for Mike to take as he stood beside her. Everything had happened so fast; first they were friends, and then they were dating, and she was rapidly enjoying his presence.
“I’m sorry about my stomach. I have to eat like every three hours pretty much. It’s weird, but I’ve done it ever since I started dancing.” Mike ran his hand over his shirt, brushing it off. “We don’t have to eat anything if you’re not hungry. I mean I can just get a snack to tide me over.” He nodded before his lips curved up into a smile. He quickly stood up and messed his hair up before looking down at her hand, intertwining their fingers. “Let’s see what I have to snack on.” He smiled at her before walking towards the door with her behind him.
He walked to the kitchen, letting go of her hand before opening the refrigerator door. “Hm. This looks good.” He reached in, grabbing a container that had some left over egg rolls. He out the container into the microwave and pushed a few buttons. Once he had the rolls in the microwave, he turned to look at her, taking in her beauty. He didn’t know how they came to where they were now especially with how fast things had happened, but he wasn’t complaining.
Rachel nuzzled her nose into his neck and sighed happily. The last time anyone had made her feel so special - so wanted - was ages ago and she knew she was never going to let go of the feeling. Was it normal to be falling for someone that you haven’t known very well on a personal level so quickly? She couldn’t see herself with anyone else anymore. It was ironic that they were both together; his ex left him for a girl and her ex left her for a boy. It was bound for them to meet one way or another, and Rachel couldn’t describe her thanks to a holy spirit above that they just so happened to have the most chemistry she had ever experienced with someone before in her life. She cuddled up close to Mike’s large body, her tiny frame almost melting onto his. His skin was still so warm against hers and she felt like she was on fire. Her emotions mixed with the warmth from their bodies was almost overwhelming. She felt like she wasn’t in their reality until Zuko barked obnoxiously to get their attention. Rachel looked down to the dog with a laugh and scratched next to its ears. “It’s okay, buddy, no one’s going to forget you. I promise,” she kissed the top of his head and turned her attention back to Mike. “You are so unreal. Thank you for making me feel like a better person.”
When Rachel cuddled closer to him, he wrapped his arms around her frame, interlocking his fingers together to let her know that he was here for her and he wasn’t going anywhere any time soon. When Zuko barked, Mike jumped slightly, sighing through his nose. He raised his head, watching Rachel kiss the top of his head, causing a small smile form on his lips. “Zuko, buddy, you got to stop doing that.” He shook his head for a moment before feeling eyes on him. He looked at Rachel, the same smile still plastered to his face. “I’m unreal? I see. Well, you’re welcome, but I haven’t really done anything.” He laughed a little before kissing her forehead.
Mike relaxed back into the bed, his eyes becoming fixated on the beige colored ceiling. He had no idea how he stumbled upon finding a girl like Rachel. He thought that the girl in his arms was amazing and beautiful. He was really surprised that no one had stolen her heart and kept it. He was just glad that he was getting the opportunity to treat her like the lady that she deserves to be treated as. He moved his hand to his stomach as it growled. “Well, are you hungry?” He chuckled a little, shaking his head.
Rachel watched Mike fumble after his phone, a small frown forming on her lips. She could feel the lack of body heat as he texted the random person that decided to text him. She waited patiently and smiled at Zuko. “Hush, it’s okay,” Rachel smiled and kissed his cheek softly. “By the way, I still hate the way you see yourself. I want you for more than your body.” She pointed to his chest and pressed her hand lightly against his abs. “See? You could be incredibly fat and spend your day eating hamburgers every meal. I’d still like you. Even if you have a heart condition.. I’ll like you. I don’t know why I feel like that,” she fiddled with her thumbs nervously. “I haven’t felt like this in so long, and you just.. you make me really happy. It only took me a few hours to develop a huge crush on you.”
She laughed nervously and brought her hand up to his cheek. She caressed it with her thumb and pressed another soft kiss to his lips. She felt the butterflies rouse in her stomach again and leaned her forehead against his chest as their lips parted.
Mike furrowed his eyebrows at her when she started talking about the way he saw himself. He had no idea what he should say. Generally, that’s what happened. Most girls that he liked wanted him for his body. He knows he’s in shape, and he likes to stay that way. When Rachel said that he could be fat that she’d still like him, he just smiled widely at her. He brought his hand up to her cheek as she fidgeted. He was going to let her say what she wanted before he said his piece. He was about to say something when he saw her lean forward slightly, her soft lips on his. When she pulled away, he ran his fingers through her hair, feeling the weight of her head on his chest.
They were laying there for a few minutes when Mike finally spoke up. “I feel the way I do about myself because it’s the way I’ve been treated for years. Good news for you though. I’ll never get fat. I’d much rather stay in shape.” He let a chuckle escape his lips before his tongue darted out, licking them. “And I’m glad that I make you feel that way because you’re so incredibly different from the other girls I’ve dated. It’s,” he paused, searching for the right words. “It’s a breath of fresh air, and I want to thank you for trying to boost my self-confidence.” Mike continued to run his fingers through her hair, staring at the ceiling.

Rachel wrapped her arms around him and pressed her lips gently to his nose. “Of course I’ll be your girlfriend.” She said, her brown eyes looking deep into his. “It’s just her loss and my gain, I guess,” she said with a shrill giggle and saw from the corner of her eye that Zuko was wagging his tail excitedly. She couldn’t deny that she was excited, either. Mike’s approach on the subject seemed awkward, but they both brushed it off quickly and she really liked the guy. There was something about him that caught her eye, even back when he was dating Quinn: he treated girls with the most respect she’s ever seen a guy treat a girl. It made her heart leap.
She felt his lips on hers and felt her breath being knocked out of her. His kisses were soft and gentle - much different from a few people she’s kissed in the past. She kissed him back with the same passion, yet softly, and pulled back eventually. Her lips parted, she took a few deep breaths and smiled lightly. “I really like you, Mike. And I really like Zuko, even if he is a little rascal.” She laughed as the dog perked up at the sound of his name.
Mike just smiled, kissing her lips softly. When she kissed him back, he moved the hand that was on her cheek, back down to her waist. He loved the feeling of her lips pressed against his. They were soft and smooth. He could taste a lip gloss or something of the sort, but he just couldn’t quite put his finger on the flavor. When she pulled away, he opened his eyes slowly, looking at her. He smiled lopsidedly, looking over at Zuko, patting the top of his head. “He is a big rascal, but you can’t help but love him.” He looked back at Rachel, licking his lips. “I really like you too, Rachel.”
He was just about to kiss her forehead when he heard his phone go off. “I’m sorry. I thought it was on silent.” He laid on his back, reaching for his phone. “It’s just a text message.” He quickly read it and sent one back before sitting it back on the night stand. “I really am sorry about that. It was just someone asking about an assignment.” Mike kissed her forehead before looking at Zuko as he stood up and shook his whole body before turning in a circle and laying right back down. Mike shook his head, licking his lips before relaxing back into the pillows as he looked at the beautiful girl in his arms.
Rachel stared at Mike and twirled at the end of one of her curls. She watched with a smirk on her face as Zuko attacked Mike’s face with his tongue and pressed herself closer against him as he gripped her waist. “Both of us? I don’t want you to cheat on him! He’d be very upset, mister.” She pointed her finger to his chest and pouted her lips, trying her hardest to look playfully angry at him.
She gave up and laughed, her chest rising and falling rapidly. She could feel his body tense up against hers, so Rachel turned her attention to him. She could also feel her heart stop momentarily as he asked her the question, her eyebrows rising significantly. “You mean your g-girlfriend? Or are you asking me to wait? Because I know what happened with you and Quinn.. And I’m not sure whether you feel ready or not.” She took a deep breath and sighed, her eyebrows aligning together, “but, if you are ready right now, as I am, my answer is yes. A billion times.”
“Well, yeah. I guess I’m asking you to be my girlfriend. I mean we don’t have to be that serious if you don’t want to be.” Mike swallowed hard before starting to mention Quinn’s name. “Quinn just forgot about me. She didn’t break up with me or tell me anything, she just forgot. Now, she’s apparently with Santana or something. Yeah, it hurts, but I now know that she didn’t want me for the reasons I thought she did.” He cleared his throat, looking down at Zuko before he licked Mike’s hand. Zuko’s action caused Mike to smile lopsidedly.
Before he moved his gaze from Zuko to Rachel, he licked his lips. “I’m ready to be in another relationship. Seeing as how my last one didn’t really even end, I made the transition to move on, and I want to move on. I want to be with you, if you’re still saying yes.” He brought his hand from her waist to her cheek, leaning in slowly, whispering. “Just for the record, I’m sure Zuko would understand that I’m not cheating on him.” He chuckled for just a moment before placing his warm lips against her, knowing he missed kissing and holding someone that wasn’t his dog.
